Thanksgiving Food Drive for HISD/GPISD

We celebrate today with thankfulness for our church, our congregation, and a community that we can continue to support and love.

A little over 4 weeks ago, St. Philip’s United Methodist Church began a food drive to support local schools in our area. As a smaller church, we planned to collect and donate enough grocery items to support a total of 20 needy families from a few different schools. We are OVERJOYED to announce that with the help of our community partners - H-E-B, Southwest Regional Medical Center, Foodarama, and Braes Interfaith Ministries we were able to raise over $2,500 in groceries and support over 60 families this year - feeding nearly 400 people.

We visited these local schools in-person to drop off gift baskets and boxes filled with canned/dry goods, bread, fruit, and frozen chickens: Herod Elementary School, Braeburn Elementary School, Walter W Fondren Junior High School, Sharpstown High School, Wisdom High School- Houston, and Galena Park High School. Thank you to our school staff who helped coordinate with us and connect us with the families: Marco Perez, Olga Reyes, Carlton Wildman, Daniel Ponce, Carmen Güereque, Beverly Conner, Lourdes Garcia-Gragera, and Gladys Perez.

We are a small church and may not be able to have as large an impact as some of the corporations and bigger donors this holiday season, but that will NEVER stop us from doing all that we can to get out in the community and try to make a difference in people's lives. As we move into the season of Advent, we want everyone to know that you are loved and that there is ALWAYS an open seat for you here at the banquet table.

From your friendly, neighborhood church at the corner of Beechnut and Renwick - HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!
